Curt Sylvester examines three players the Lions might take with the sixth pick in the first round:
WR Roy Williams, Texas
Height/weight: 6-feet-2, 212 pounds.
The scoop: Considered the complete package by most draft analysts. Not quite as polished as Larry Fitzgerald of Pitt, but Williams is projected to be Fitzgerald's equal within one or two seasons. Has excellent speed (4.48 seconds in the 40), gets off the line of scrimmage quickly, is quick coming out of his cuts and doesn't mind catching the ball in traffic.
Lions' level of interest: High. Matched with Charles Rogers, he would give Joey Harrington two of the most dangerous young threats in the NFL.
TE Kellen Winslow Jr., Miami (Fla.)
Height/weight: 6-4, 247 pounds.
The scoop: Son of Hall of Fame tight end Kellen Winslow. Has the receiving skills of a wide receiver but is bigger, stronger and very intense. Runs exceptionally well for a big man (4.62 seconds in the 40), has good hands and can be a nasty downfield blocker. Some think he could be as good or better than Tony Gonzalez of Kansas City or Jeremy Shockey of the New York Giants.
Lions' level of interest: High. The Lions think he is the best all-around receiver in the draft, but he likely will be drafted in the top five.
S Sean Taylor, Miami (Fla.)
Height/weight: 6-2, 230 pounds.
The scoop: Rated the best defensive back in the draft and perhaps the best all-around athlete. Not a pure hitter like Dallas safety Roy Williams, but might be more complete. Can cover sideline to sideline, has good hands (14 interceptions at Miami) and good instincts. Will be even better when he improves his reads on quarterbacks and receiver routes.
Lions' level of interest: High. He could be a Pro Bowler in two or three years, but the Lions have pressing need for an offensive playmaker
WILLIAMS OR TAYLOR FOR US IN MY OPINION AND I LIKE TAYLOR THE BEST OF THE 3
