QB Jon Kitna recieved a one-year contract extension today, so he is on contract with the Bengals through 2005. They say that his salary was reduced, but there was no specific levels.
I don't understand why the Bengals want to extend the contract with him, because if Carson Palmer has an incredible year then Kitna would not be necessary in 2005 and they could use a younger backup starting then. This will end up being a waste perhaps.
What do you think it means - does it suggest that the Bengals want protection if Carson goes down or fails, or does this suggest that the team is losing faith in Carson?
